An afternoon of creating two authentic Mexican staples from scratch, eating what you’ve made, and taking home the left overs!
Overview:
Step into the world of Mexican cuisine, with the chance to make two iconic staples, tacos and salsa macha, from scratch and sit down to eat what you've cooked.
Over 4 hands-on hours, you'll be taught how to make authentic dishes, hydrating and kneading masa, learning to hand-press and griddle your own tortillas, and building a salsa macha from scratch - toasting, blending and seasoning it to your own flavour profile.
Salsa macha is a unique and delicious condiment from Mexico. It’s made with a variety of dried chillis, nuts, seeds, and garlic which are infused in oil, and is widely used as a topping or garnish.
Alexa Fernandez founded Chili Maven to bring the flavour & fire of Mexico to kitchen tables across the UK. She grew up in the USA, her family is from Mexico, and food was how she learned about her heritage. She has a Diploma in Mexican Gastronomy, and everything she cooks is rooted in knowledge about the rich history, ingredients, culture and most importantly, the beautiful and fragrant chillies of Mexico.
Chili Maven brings deep expertise in Mexican chilli culture - the varieties, how they're grown, how to clean and prepare them, and how each one changes the flavour of a dish. You'll work your way through a guided chilli tour before choosing the chillies, nuts and seeds that go into your own jar. No two salsas in the room will be identical.
The evening ends the way it should - everyone sits down together to eat tacos made with the tortillas you pressed and the salsa you made, along with a protein filling and salad, accompanied by a glass of prosecco.
You leave with a full jar of your own salsa macha, some tortillas for the road, along with a printed recipe pack and the knowledge to recreate both at home whenever you want.
