Ever wondered how to enter for a chance to win a Great Taste Award? Jenna, from The Guild of Fine Food, hosted a meet-up for our members at Mission Kitchen, offering valuable insights on how to put together a strong application for those considering applying for a Great Taste Award.

Each year more than 14,000 products from over 100 countries are assessed by a panel of 500 industry experts for the Great Taste awards, but on average, only a third of all entries receive an award. Here are their five top tips to remember when making your entries this year. Good luck!

1. Check your product is eligible:

The daunting challenge for most food startups is locking down a fully-fitted commercial kitchen without draining their financial reserves. When we laid the foundation of Mission Kitchen, our prime objective was to provide a flexible, cost-efficient solution through the provision of shared kitchen facilities.

Our team, seasoned in the food industry, recognised the need to provide businesses with access to top-tier equipment and storage space without the hefty initial costs involved in building and maintaining a private kitchen. With this, they can channel their budget towards recipe innovation, content creation, and business expansion.

2. You’ve got to be in it to win it: Get your entries in early!

General Entry to Great Taste is open for two weeks from Monday 22 January until 6 February. However, there are a limited number of spaces available so if capacity is reached before then, entry will close. Make sure you get your entries in nice and early to avoid disappointment.

3. Your product description matters:

Products are blind-tasted meaning all packaging and branding is removed before they are put in front of the judges. The description is one of the only pieces of information the judges receive about your product, so it is important that you include brief, factual information, focusing on flavour, additions, ingredients and anything unique about production, e.g. heritage or terroir, without sharing your brand or company name. You only have 250 characters to tell the judges about your product so make them count!

4. Tell us where your products are stocked

All Great Taste award-winners are listed on the Guild of Fine Food’s online directory of award-winning products. Be sure to include the details of your stockists with your entry so food lovers can find your award-winning products.

Explore the directory.

5. Have a question? Give us a call or drop us a line

Our friendly team is on hand to help you with any questions or queries you may have about your entries. Don’t be shy, get in touch with our team on greattaste@gff.co.uk or +44(0) 1747 825 200
